20 Sep 2004 The Life of a Diary Manager

[Misc] I've done my first day as a data entering person, or "Diary Manager" as the position title states. It's for a third party motor insurance company. It's only a temporary job to get me some spare cash for rent and stuff, it'll only last to the end of the week. So far so good. It started out ok in the morning, it was all online and I did nothing more than clear out a few dosen claims. Then they started applying rules to look out for, that you'd only know or understand off by heart if you've worked with that kind of thing for years. Stuff like "look out here to see if a repair company exist, then push this, type in that protocol, etc". They put a lot of faith in the people they pull off the street with none of that experience to organise all their files, hoping that they don't put the files in the wrong place, or worse. One down, four to go...

Gravatar I was just thinking the other day about the title of "Diary Management" and how it's like one of those made-up named for a crappy job to make it sound more professional than it actually is. Something like "Casual Technician" for a janitor, or maybe "Sandwich Engineer". Just a thought.

Gravatar LOL thats brilliant :) Hmm I think Abi would have something to say about that "Sandwich Engineer" comment.
