27 Apr 2007 Running water but through the wrong end

A poem relative to the recent event that happened to me this week.

Running water, but through the wrong end
Flowing through me like tainted wine.
The treats that pass my lips
Have no time to be processed,
Rush through on the gravy train,
Feeling their shapes.

Imodium's all gone but it no work.
Imodium has never failed before. Why now? Why...

Insides gargle like the toilet that I am bound to.

Sleep. A chance to sleep, maybe to rid my troubles.
It works with sea-sickness.
Sleep is good.
Sleep is not enough this time.
It was wishful thinking anyway. Long shot at best. I had nothing else to do.

My sphincter can't take much more dry paper.

Night time. The time. All or nothing. Relentless assault.
Water rushing out with a roar of stink
Unprocessed raisins squeeze thought the ring.
Something burns but I smell no smoke.
There is no fire. Oh God why is there no fire?

I weep with a pain that mere lower-middle class men shouldn't have to tolerate.
Swollen to double its size to try and block the passage.
Need relief. Desperate times.
Petroleum jelly.
Soothness and cool.

Three hours of sleep. This has to end now.

More Imodium, more supplies. It will not fail me.
The gargling beast inside kicks up a fuss.
One more squirt. I throw more ammo inside.
It will not fail me.
It will not!

Wait, how long has it been?
6 hours? Oh cool, it must have worked.
Glad that's over.
But I shall never forget.

14 Sep 2006 New sketches and my nightmare added

I've added some new pictures to The Art of Grax for all to see. All but two of them are sketches. The last two are the picture of the Nightmare Spectre that I drew the other night. I've also replaced the sketches in that entry with the coloured drawings so that you can fully appreciate the full horror of my nightmares. Or something like that.

11 Feb 2006 One Day...

I've just finished my latest animation; "One Day..." It's a story about love and one man's journey in finding it. Some might say it's a good Valentines Day submission, I say that it's a coincidence. :-P

I was listening to Echoes: the Einaudi Collection a few weeks ago and all of a sudden this animation started playing in my head. And unlike all the other animations that are played in my head I thought "Say, I can actually DO this one!" So I got to work. It's not exactly how I want it, but I'm actually proud of this piece of work. I guess it's up to the public to see if it's any good.

15 Jun 2005 My First Flash Animation

.... Apart from the stuff I did for Nezis.co.uk, which could be argued as Flash animation...

I was told that I had to make a Flash animation for a job interview as a web developer, to show off what I am capable of. It was to be an animation on "How to make a cup of tea". This shouldn't take too long I thought... 28 hours later and I cobble something together for the interview. Suffice to say they liked it a lot.

The thing is I'm not 100% happy with it. Sure it was hard work and a lot of fun to make, I just feel it could be so much better. Technically it's not even finished yet. The subtitles and other possible bugs must be fixed, I wanted to add music to the whole presentation, the milk doesn't come out of the bottle, I had to cut out some scenes because I ran out of time, and the guy at the end (which is supposed to be me, Grax) simply looks shit. So many things that I want to do to the animation... No wait, that's pretty much all I wanted to do.

I'm going to carry on working on it.

*UPDATE* - I've updated the animation. The things I did include fixing the narration/subtitle sync, animated the milk being poured, tweaked the shape of my head at the end, added some credits and I threw in an extra scene after step 7. Any problems please let me know.

18 Apr 2005 SimpleImg to reflect my mood.

This week's SimpleImg word is Worried, and that's kinda how I'm feeling right about now. The main cause for my worries is work. I don't really feel very secure in my job now. Sales have been bad over the winter period, which means things have been a bit tight money wise. This has partly left me thinking that my time at my workplace may be shorter than I'd like it to be. This wouldn't be so bad if I had a "Just in case" stash of money just in case. Trouble is I've spent it all on maintaining my car for a year and I haven't been putting aside a little of my pay... Oh well, the taxman owes me some money and he better pay if he knows what's good for him.

The other thing about my job is I'm starting to get bored with it. I've completed the big project web site for the company I work with. It's live. I want to move onto another big web project that's unrelated to the last one. But now I'm pretty much stuck maintaining the thing. And maintenance is boring. That's partly why I'm so late updating all my websites. I want something new, challenging, and exciting. I need to be thrown in the deep end again with something and be forced to learn something new or die otherwise (or something like that). Dammit, that's how I became the competent web programmer you see before you.

Still all these things are not a major worry. I still sleep quite comfortably at night. I just wanted to share and show how I feel that's all.

10 Apr 2005 SimpleImg Time, Kinda.

Right I've put up last weeks SimpleImg picture, lazy, and this weeks SimpleImg picture, busy, but because I've been really busy with all sorts of stuff like work, going out, going to a Stag weekend (read more here), and foolishly adding some annoying spyware on my computer that I can't seem to get rid of, I'm only uploading the sketches of the images. I'll upload the coloured in versions as soon as I do them, as well as a new SimpleImg in time for next week.

Boy this new attempt at doing SimpleImg every week is not going terribly well, is it?

I warn you now it ain't pretty. It's even more crappy than this one I did.

On another note I've fixed the problem that made everything really thin when you used an IE browser. Which is good because it was really starting to piss me off.

15 Feb 2005 "In the World of Darkness" mini-series (working title)

I got bored with my roleplay group the other Sunday (we play White Wolf's World of Darkness) because my character wasn't doing anything. So I drew a mini comic thing of what everyone else was doing. I'd like to share the result.

The characters in the game are Alyssa, a reincarnated egyptian witch who's going out with a high powered vampire (Meket I think), Jude, a multi-club owning Deva vampire, 'C', a human who works in the criminal underworld, Giles, a vampire that's no longer with us, Arnold, a vampire Dick Tracy wannabe, and Adrian, a human DT teacher who use to be addiected to drugs. Not a bad mix I'd say. I realise that it'll make absolutely no sense to anyone except the people I was with at the time. Tough. Just sit there and try to appreciate my crappy art.

There's a couple more sheets that I need to complete before I can upload them. Also I won't be colouring these in unless I become obssessed with colour them in. I dunno if I'll do another comic set. Maybe if I get bored again next time.

Also I've added a Bio section. Wanna know more about me? No I didn't think so. Still it's there if you want to look. If you want me to add more stuff to it tell me.

5 Feb 2005 Tablets are cool.

After several months of debating I've finally given in and got myself a graphics tablet for my computer. This one to be precise, mainly because it was the cheapest one I could find. My face was filled with glee when it arrived this morning and I decided to give it a try. So I quickly knocked up this picture below (note: this was drawn directly onto the computer using MS Paint. I didn't sketch it beforehand. Promise!):

It'll be in the Art of Grax, under Miscellaneous.

It's a bit crap, but it's not too bad for my first try. The tablet itself is pretty good, although I wish there was a bigger drawing space. You only get A6, roughly the size of a postcard. But what do you expect, you get what you pay for. There is this funky high-tech tracing facility on the tablet, which is simply lift the front transparant sheet, put your drawing underneath it, and trace around it with the pen. Brilliant!

I can't wait to try the tablet out on a proper drawing. *glee*

12 Jul 2004 At last; my latest, greatest work is completed

I have finally finished my latest art pieces. It's taken about 6 weeks of on-off work to complete, and it's still not brilliant. Oh well, judge for yourself at THE ART OF GRAX.

The drawing were gifts to my Uni friends/house mates before we all split up one last time and go our seperate ways.... My God, my Graduation Ceremony is this Thursday. I'm gonna be officially finished with University by the end of the week! eeep.

I've added a new section to The Art of Grax called SimpleImg. It's a meme idea that I copied from Moopy, who copied the idea from Claire. Anyway the idea is that once a week I type in a random word into Google's image search engine and draw one of the first images from the search results. To start off I thought I would try my name, Grax. Check out the results in the SimpleImg Section.
