27 Sep 2004 A quick site plug-in.
I just finished creating that illustrator's web site all in flash. Right at this very moment! You can see his work at
nezis.co.uk. It took a
little bit longer than I had hoped, but the result is pretty good, even if I do say so myself. :D
Remeber, that address again is
nezis.co.uk. Take a look, feedback is always good.
(P.S. It's a Flash web site, totally done in Flash. So you'll need the
latest version of Flash to view the site).
25 Sep 2004 I did my time
I finished my last day as a data enterer with that company yesterday. During the week they got me to filter out any unneccessary records from their database, and also got me to make phonecalls to many, many different garages to ask information about the various vehicles they did. They didn't wanna do the updates and, in the end, I didn't wanna do the updates either. I left that building quickly at the end of the day. Which leaves me with this final thought:
"Data entry; and interesting experience, but I wouldn't want to do it all the time. It's one of those "I've done that" moment, like being a paperboy, a shopfloor keeper, or a pimp, for example".
20 Sep 2004 The Life of a Diary Manager
I've done my first day as a data entering person, or "Diary Manager" as the position title states. It's for a third party motor insurance company. It's only a temporary job to get me some spare cash for rent and stuff, it'll only last to the end of the week. So far so good.
It started out ok in the morning, it was all online and I did nothing more than clear out a few dosen claims. Then they started applying rules to look out for, that you'd only know or understand off by heart if you've worked with that kind of thing for years. Stuff like "look out here to see if a repair company exist, then push this, type in that protocol, etc". They put a lot of faith in the people they pull off the street with
none of that experience to organise all their files, hoping that they
don't put the files in the wrong place, or worse.
One down, four to go...
13 Sep 2004 "Not now son, I've got work to do..."
I've got me a little project to work on. It's for a friend of my brother. He's an illustrator by trade and he needs a web portfolio to show off his work. And he want's it all to be done in Flash, mainly for 'security' reasons. So I took up the job. After all it'll give me the chance to try out my mad Flashing skills I picked up about a month ago. Hopefully the whole thing won't take more than a week or two to complete.
I've also been thinking about getting a Graphics Tablet,
much like this one. I've tried one before and they're
so cool to do art stuff with. If I did get one it'll make my artwork much better...*pff* yeah right... But can I justify paying £35+ for a tool I'll end up not using when my drawing phase is over?
6 Sep 2004 It returns true believers!
At last! After far too long being out of action and taking
far too long to sort out, the
Marvel Database is back live and running properly again! I'm so happy that my first proper website is working again. Joy!
But it came with a price. I couldn't continue to fix the site round a friends house cos he didn't say it was OK to do so (thanks buddy), so I resorted to use the local Net Cafe,
This Net Cafe to be precise (nice people by the way). The trouble was it was costing me money to fix the site, y'know "Time is Money" and stuff. It cost me several trips and about £30 to get the Marvel Database working again! Still I shouldn't have to do something like that again for a long while now.
£30... And I thought web developing would be a cheap hobby. :P
4 Sep 2004 Those Filthy Animals!
Sorry about this site being out of order for a while, but it wasn't my fault. Honest. The people who provide my domain name decided to change the name server from what it was to what they wanted. It's all sorted now.
